Protest march taken out against arrest of journalist in Bengal
NUJI and DJA warned of starting an agitation
New Delhi, 21 February. The National Union of Journalists (India) and Delhi Journalists Association took out a march from Jantar Mantar to Bang Bhawan in protest against the arrest of Republic Bangla Channel correspondent Santu Pan in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. Journalist organizations have demanded the immediate release of Santu Pan. Despite Section 144 implemented in Delhi, journalists took out a protest march.
During the protest march, NUJI President Ras Bihari said that doing journalism in West Bengal has become a crime under Mamta rule. The media is being targeted for exposing the dark deeds of ministers and leaders of the Trinamool Congress government. Republic Bangla TV correspondent was arrested for exposing the ground truth of Sandeshkhali. The journalist has been sent to police custody for three days. He said that if the scribe is not released, a large-scale nationwide protest will be launched. He told that a
delegation of NUJI will go to West Bengal and prepare a detail report on the current situation of media.
NUJI Secretary General Pradeep Tiwari said that Mamata Banerjee has kept the media under control to maintain her power in the state. DJA convenor Rakesh Thapliyal said that the media cannot be controlled for long time. Not only the people of Bengal but the people of the entire country have come to know the truth of Mamata Banerjee. NUJI Secretary Amlesh Raju said that Mamta Banerjee wants to suppress the dark truth of her people by spreading terror in the media.
During the protest march, senior journalists Manoj Verma, Awadhesh Kumar, Seema Kiran, Naresh Gupta, Anita Chaudhary, Mukesh Vats, Usha Pahwa, Swati Verma, Naveen Gautam etc. addressed. Journalist organizations have warned that if journalist Santu Pan is not released, Banga Bhavan will be surrounded. Along with this, protests will be held across the country.
