Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) Pioneers Sustainable Tourism with Launch of Battery Operated Vehicles
TATR Becomes the First Tiger Reserve to Introduce Locally-Owned Battery Operated Vehicles for Tourism
January 4, 2023
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) has pioneered sustainable tourism in the middle of the forest by introducing a fleet of battery-operated vehicles. With pride, the reserve becomes the first of its type to use locally owned electric cars only for tourism, a development that has the potential to completely change the way that people explore nature.
These electric cars, tucked away against the backdrop of nature’s beauties, promise an immersive experience for local communities and wildlife aficionados alike.
A single charge allows these vehicles to travel 100–120 km, offering a longer and more ecologically friendly safari experience. Charging is easy and does not require specialized charging stations; a full recharge only takes 6 to 8 hours. The cars are easily powered by a regular 15A socket, which makes them very accessible in addition to being incredibly efficient.
Equipped with a Battery Management System (BMS), these vehicles demonstrate a commitment to longevity and optimal performance. The user-friendly display screen enhances the overall experience, providing both tourists and operators with real-time information. Navigating hilly terrains is made seamless with the added Hill Assistance feature, complemented by a robust 4-wheel-drive system for stability and control.
Deputy Director (Buffer) Sh. Kushagra Pathak expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The introduction of battery-operated vehicles marks a significant leap forward in our commitment to sustainable tourism. We are thrilled to be the first Tiger Reserve to embrace this eco-friendly initiative, providing both a unique experience for tourists and empowering local communities. This endeavor aligns with our vision to harmonize wildlife conservation with responsible tourism practices.”
At a price point of 8 lakh for retrofitting, TATR guarantees that sustainability is not only an ecological but also a commercially feasible objective for the local population. This innovative project demonstrates the reserve’s commitment to striking a balance between responsible tourism practices and wildlife conservation.
