Farmers are being cheated in name of crop insurance: Selja
Chandigarh, August 5 – President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja said that the government is cheating the farmers in the name of crop insurance scheme. Farmers were cheated in the name of insurance and even today farmers are suffering for getting compensation for damaged crops, but till date the amount of crop damage has not been paid to them.
Kumari Selja said in BJP government farmers have been looted in the name of crop insurance. The share of premium was deducted from the bank accounts of the farmers, but they were not paid the amount of premium. Due to which, even after getting insurance, farmers in some states have to suffer for getting compensation for crop damaged due to natural calamity.
Kumari Selja said that due to the arbitrariness of the insurance companies, thousands of farmers are wandering for claims even after paying the premium. At present, farmers’ claims worth Rs 2288.6 crore are pending in the country due to one reason or the other. The outstanding claim of this amount is for the years 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. Had this money been deposited in the account of the farmers, today they would not have faced so much trouble. She said that even in Haryana, money is not being deposited in the accounts of farmers. Insurance companies are leaving no stone unturned to harass the farmers and are reluctant to give them the insurance amount.
