Chandigarh, August 24: The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, has released Rs.11.47 crore as compensation to 8633 farmers whose paddy crop was damaged by heavy rain in Tarn Taran district in the first week of August last year.
Acting on the directive of the Chief Minister, the Revenue Department today released the compensation amount, according to an official spokesperson.
Captain Amarinder Singh has also instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran, to immediately disburse the relief to the affected farmers.
Giving details of the losses, the spokesperson said of the total area of 9558 acres, paddy was destroyed in 4616 acres of land as a result of heavy rainfall in villages Johal Dhai Wala, Munda Pind, Gujjarpura and Dhunda of Khadur Sahib Tehsil, besides 4942 acres in villages Kambo Dhai Wala, Dhunn Dhai Wala, Gharka and Chamba Kalan of Tarn Taran Tehsil.
