Women Lead Dialogue on ‘One Nation One Election’ in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, 28 April — A women-led dialogue on ‘One Nation One Election’ (ONOE) was organized today at Sector 33, Chandigarh, bringing together participants from diverse professional backgrounds. The event aimed to raise awareness and spark discussion on the transformative potential of simultaneous elections in India.
Senior Advocate and former Solicitor General of India, Chetan Mittal, and former Haryana DGP, Gurjot Singh Malhi, were the keynote speakers at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Chetan Mittal provided a historical overview of the concept and outlined the advantages and relevance of One Nation One Election in today’s context. “This is not a random agenda; it is a national agenda. It will pave the way for making Bharat a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Gurjot Singh Malhi emphasized the crucial role of women in nation-building, starting from their influence in shaping families. Highlighting the economic benefits of ONOE, he said, “Simultaneous elections will significantly cut down expenses, allowing greater focus and investment in developmental activities.”
Advocate Lekhraj Sharma also addressed the gathering, offering legal perspectives on the feasibility of implementing One Nation One Election and its potential to bring greater efficiency to the country’s democratic processes.
The event was organized by former Municipal Councillor Heera Negi, who took the initiative to mobilize women from various sectors to participate in this important conversation, reinforcing the value of inclusive dialogue in building national consensus.
The session concluded with a lively interaction between the speakers and participants, reaffirming the idea of One Nation One Election as a significant step towards a stronger and more developed India.
