Chandigarh, 19th May 2025:
The Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Administration convened a meeting today under the Chairmanship of Smt. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Engineering, U.T. Chandigarh, to review the city’s preparedness for the forthcoming monsoon, expected to arrive by the end of June.

The meeting was attended by C. B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, U.T. Administration; Sanjay Arora, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation; Superintending Engineers Jigna and Dr. Rajesh Bansal (Public Health); A. K. Verma from CPDL; and other key officials.

During the deliberations, both the Engineering Department and the Municipal Corporation agreed on an immediate city‑wide drive to clean road gullies, clear berms of debris, and desilt storm‑water drains, manholes, and the Sukhna Choe, Patiala‑ki‑Rao and N‑Choe channels. Pumping sets, generators and sandbags will be pre‑positioned at identified water‑logging hotspots, while road surfaces, bridges and culverts under repair or recarpeting will be inspected and restored without delay.

All government, institutional and residential buildings will have their rooftop terraces cleared and existing rain‑water‑harvesting structures serviced. Lightning arresters at major installations will be tested at once. Dedicated teams will operate round the clock on a rotational roster to monitor Sukhna Lake water levels, respond to public complaints, and ensure uninterrupted essential services. Close coordination between Municipal Corporation and Administration field units has been emphasised to provide swift, joint solutions wherever needed.

Residents can reach the 24×7 emergency helplines —  0172‑2787200 or 0172‑6135200  — for assistance and advisories throughout the monsoon period.
