The Department of Political Science, Panjab University organized its annual Pradeep Kumar Memorial Lecture on November 22, 2023. The Department has been organizing lectures under the series for the past two decades in order to refresh, revisit, and reflect the rich academic legacy of Professor Pradeep Kumar who passed away suddenly at a young age in 2002. The lecture this year was delivered by Professor Pramod Kumar, Chairperson, Institute for Development and Communication, Chandigarh. Its theme was “Decoding Democracy in India: Challenges and Opportunities”. The distinguished speaker touched upon critical themes of Indian politics and democracy. He emphasized the need to understand and analyze the new grammar of politics in the context of globalization, technological revolution, market economy, competitive religiosity and populism. The insightful talk was followed by an interactive session with the audience The lecture was attended by Professor Pradeep Kumar’s family, his close friends and contemporaries, apart from the faculty and students of the department.
