TDSAT organises Seminar on Consumer Grievances & Dispute Resolution in Telecom, Broadcasting & Cyber Sectors” in Amritsar

Hon’ble Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court applauds the delivery system of TDSAT and also underlines the need for establishing permanent Benches of TDSAT at different places

The TDSAT organised a seminar on “Consumer Grievances & Dispute Resolution in Telecom, Broadcasting & Cyber Sectors” at Amritsar, Punjab on 23rd September, 2023. It also held its Court at Amritsar on 22nd September, 2023.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India was the Chief Guest. In his address Hon’ble Chief Guest applauded the delivery system of TDSAT and appreciated that it has held Court at Amritsar to facilitate local litigants and Advocates. He also underlined the need for establishing permanent Benches of TDSAT at different places and strengthening its infrastructure. He emphasised that the Tribunals in the country are a necessity and are required to be strengthened. He very emphatically declared that TDSAT has been the outstanding Tribunal in the country keeping in view the jurisdiction handled by it and its delivery system.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arun Palli, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court was the Guest of Honour. Hon’ble Justice Palli emphasised the importance of Dispute resolution by TDSAT. He credited the Tribunal and its Chairperson for reaching out to litigants at their doorsteps by holding Courts at different places. He highlighted the need for regulating OTT platforms.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice D.N. Patel, Chairperson, TDSAT delivered the welcome address. He described the jurisdiction, delivery system etc. of the TDSAT. He informed the august gathering that TDSAT has been resolving disputes pertaining to Telecom, Broadcasting, Cyber, AERA matters as expeditiously as possible and the disposal rate is catching up with the filing rate. He also informed that TDSAT has also held Court at Amritsar on 22.09.2023 to hear the local matters to facilitate the litigants of hearing the matters at their door steps.

Mr. Manjul Bajpai, President, Telecom Lawyers Association delivered the vote of thanks for the Inaugural Session. The Seminar was attended by Hon’ble Judges of High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Members of Amritsar Bar Association, Telecom Lawyers Association, senior officers of Punjab Government and also the Central Government, representatives of service providers in Telecom and Broadcasting Sectors, Faculty Members and Law students of the Law colleges at Amritsar.

In the Business Session the subject experts like Mr. Aman Pal, Additional Advocate General, Government of Punjab, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Saini, President, Amritsar Bar Association, Mr. Tejveer Singh Bhatia, Ms. Payal Kakra, Mr. Kunal Tandon, Mr. Vibhav Srivastava, Mr. Himanshu Dhawan Advocates, deliberated upon the relevant issues in the Broadcasting, Telecom, and Cyber sectors. Mr. Saini congratulated TDSAT for coming to Amritsar and also invited the Institution and Telecom Lawyers’ Association to organize such events in future as well for the benefit of local people and stakeholders. Mr. Tejveer Singh Bhatia, Advocate stressed the need for a permanent and adequate premises for TDSAT at Delhi as it has been functioning from rented premises and requires adequate space and other infrastructure. The queries of the audience were addressed by subject experts. Mr. Manjul Bajpai, Advocate moderated the session. He also delivered concluding remarks. The seminar concluded with Business Session where Mr. Nasir Husain, Advocate proposed Vote of Thanks.
