State government should work on war footing to deal with Lumpy Skin Disease: Hooda

August 18, Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has demanded that the government should work on a war footing to deal with the Lumpy skin disease. Hooda says that thousands of animals have fallen prey to the disease and animals are being killed continuously, but till now the necessary urgency has not been shown by the government.
“The government should put proper emphasis on disease treatment, sampling and vaccination. Arrangements should be made to organize medical camps in every village and keep infected animals away from healthy animals. Along with the government, animal owners also need to take special precautions to prevent infection,” he said.
The former Chief Minister also demanded special grants and compensation for cattle farmers and gaushalas. “Destitute animals are being taken out from the gaushalas under compulsion, due to lack of proper grant from the government,” he said.
“We demand that the government should give a grant of ₹ 50 per day per cow to the gaushalas. If the government does this, then not a single destitute animal will be found on the road. This demand of Gaushalas was also raised by the Congress in the Vidhan Sabha, but no attention was paid by the government, which is leading to a situation where helpless cattle have to bear the brunt,” he stated.
Hooda said that during the Congress government, he had started the animal insurance scheme for just ₹ 100, but the BJP government stopped this scheme. “Not only livestock owners, but the common people also have to bear the brunt of this neglect of the government as there has been a huge reduction in milk production because of Lumpy disease, which has led to an increase in the price of milk. Keeping in mind the widespread impact of the disease, the government will have to prepare a special strategy to overcome the disease,” he said.
Responding to the questions of journalists at Chandigarh residence, the Leader of Opposition also informed about the upcoming programs of the Congress. He said that on August 28, the Haryana Congress will see a big participation in the Halla Bol rally against the price rise in Delhi. Due to this rally, the ‘Vipaksh Aapke Samaksh’ programs will now be held on September 11. In this too, the government’s failures will be exposed before the public on all state level and local issues including inflation, unemployment, rising crime and drug addiction.
Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party has again reiterated its demand for a special session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha over the Shamlat land issue. Congress has demanded that in view of the decision of the Supreme Court, the State Government should amend the Shamlat Land Act, to protect families living on the Shamlat land for years and ensure that they do not have to be evicted. The Congress had also demanded reservation of OBC category in Panchayat elections and said the government should make provisions in the next round of Panchayat elections.
