Artscapes Showcases the Creative Force of Women Artists at Punjab Kala Bhawan

Chandigarh, April 25, 2025:
Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria inaugurated the 11th edition of the All-Women Artists’ Art Exhibition – 2025, organized by Artscapes at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16. The exhibition, which runs from April 25 to May 2, highlights the diverse and dynamic contributions of women in visual art from across India and abroad.

The Governor appreciated the platform provided by Artscapes to women artists, calling it a celebration of creative freedom, cultural dialogue, and empowerment. He emphasized that art is not only a form of self-expression but also a means of social reflection and change. “Art connects deeply with our collective consciousness. When women lead this narrative, it becomes even more powerful and transformative,” he said.

Administrator UT Chandigarh Sh.Kataria congratulated 12 distinguished women artists who were felicitated for their exceptional work, stating that such recognition not only honours individual excellence but also inspires emerging talent across the country. He lauded Artscapes for its consistent efforts since 2011 in nurturing women artists and making art accessible to all sections of society.

Sh. Kataria reflected on the journey of women in Indian art history, from the cave paintings of Bhimbetka to contemporary masters like Amrita Sher-Gil and Arpita Singh. He underscored the importance of continuing to create inclusive platforms where women artists can thrive, express freely, and inspire society.

The exhibition witnessed an overwhelming response, with nearly 1,000 entries received from across India. A rigorous two-tier jury process led by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists resulted in the selection of over 100 works for the exhibition. Awards worth Rs. 3,00,000 were presented to artists in both professional and student categories.

Jurors included Sanjay Kumar, National Awardee and Head of the Department of Visual Arts at MDU Rohtak; Madan Lal, eminent artist; and Kanchan Chander, senior visual artist and former faculty at the College of Art, New Delhi. The curatorial insights were led by Archana Khare-Ghose, noted art critic and editor.

The exhibition attracted art lovers, students, collectors, and cultural enthusiasts, making it not just an art showcase but a vibrant gathering of ideas, expression, and celebration of womanhood.
