NSUI Punjab President Isherpreet Singh Submits Memorandum to Excise Commissioner Seeking Permanent Removal of Wine Shop Near Rayat Bahra College
Chandigarh, 19 May 2025 – In a focused and determined effort to address growing safety concerns of students, NSUI Punjab President Isherpreet Singh met with Shri Jitendra Jorwal, Commissioner, Excise and Taxation Department, Punjab, and submitted a formal memorandum demanding the permanent closure of the wine shop located near Rayat Bahra College, Kharar.
The memorandum carried signatures from numerous girl students, as well as endorsements from local sarpanches and panchayat members, citing repeated incidents of harassment and public discomfort caused by the presence of the liquor outlet. The shop’s close proximity to a Gurdwara Sahib and a Masjid has further escalated concerns among the surrounding communities.
Speaking after the meeting, Isherpreet Singh stated:
“The youth and especially our female students deserve a safe, secure, and respectful environment. No compromise will be accepted when it comes to their dignity. I am fully committed to ensuring this wine shop is permanently removed.”
Commissioner Shri Jitendra Jorwal, upon receiving the memorandum, acknowledged the concerns raised and conveyed that he is actively reviewing the matter with due seriousness and will take appropriate action as deemed necessary.
This marks a significant step in NSUI Punjab’s ongoing efforts to protect student rights and uphold community values across the state.
