Livasa Hospital, Amritsar becomes only center in region performing kidney transplants
Amritsar: Livasa Hospital, Amritsar, today announced a historic milestone with the successful completion of this year’s first kidney transplant surgery in the region. The announcement was made during a press conference titled- A new hope: advancing kidney transplant care- held at Livasa Hospital, Amritsar this Friday. The event brought together senior clinicians, hospital leadership, members of the medical community, and media representatives to highlight the achievement and the hospital’s growing capabilities under its kidney transplant program. With this Livasa Hospital became the only center in the region performing kidney transplants.
The first kidney transplant of this year, in the region was successfully performed by a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Radhika Garg, Consultant Nephrologist, and Dr. Pars Ram Saini, Consultant Urologist & Transplant Surgeon, supported by anaesthesiologists, intensivists, and nursing staff. Both the recipient and donor are stable and recovering well, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to patient safety, precision, and compassionate care.
The patient was a 20-year-old female who underwent a living donor transplant, with her mother serving as the donor. Both donor and recipient shared the same blood group.
During the press conference, the recipient and donor shared their story, providing a moving illustration of how timely diagnosis, advanced care, and teamwork can transform lives. This achievement ensures that patients across Punjab and neighbouring states can access advanced renal and transplant care without the need to travel to metropolitan centers.
