Van Mahotsav in the form of MAGIC Mela-2022 is being celebrated with fervour in Chandigarh where Hon’ble Governor Sh.Banwarilal Purohit kick started the plantation festival by establishing Amrut Van on 13th July, 2022.
During the current year, various stakeholders like school/ college students, NGOs, Para Military Forces, Central Govt. Organisations, various departments of UT Chandigarh and general public are being associated in the Mega Plantation Drive.
In this series, the Forest Department, UT Chandigarh organized a Plantation Programme at Patiala-ki-Rao forest area, Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh graced the occasion as Chief Guest and planted ‘Triveni’ sapling i.e. Banyan, Peepal and Neem together. The department has planted 1500 saplings of 18 different species using a new crescent pit planting technique.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh.Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser informed that informed that all the partners in the current “Mega Afforestation & Greening Initiative in Chandigarh (MAGIC) Mela – 2022” should make sure that the entire plantation is done in time and proper care of the plants be taken thereafter. He applauded the effort of the department in the endeavour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary Forests, UT Chandigarh informed that department is making constant and sincere efforts in enhancing the green cover of the city.
Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh said that new planting technique adopted on a Pilot basis shall help not only for good growth of plant but also shall help in increasing the moisture regime of the area.
The function was attended by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and department officers/officials and frontline staff of Forest Department, UT Chandigarh.
