GMSSS-16 becomes North India’s first and India’s second fully air-conditioned government school
Alumnus Arvind Jain expresses gratitude by donating air conditioners during alumni meet

Chandigarh: Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, is counted among the finest schools in Chandigarh. A golden jubilee reunion of the 1975 batch (Section A) alumni was held on the school premises today. During the event, alumnus Arvind Jain—renowned social worker and member of several organizations—donated 1.5-ton Hitachi inverter air conditioners for all 35 classrooms of the school. With this generous contribution, the school has now become fully air-conditioned, making it the first government school in North India and the second in the country to achieve this distinction.
On this historic occasion, the air conditioning project was officially inaugurated by IAS officer Ms. Prerna Puri, Secretary of Education and Engineering.
Speaking at the event, Arvind Jain said the reunion was not just an opportunity to relive old memories but also a moment to reconnect and express gratitude towards their alma mater.
In the presence of current Principal Ms. Bhavneet Kaur and School Coordinator Ms. Sheetal, 14 former teachers were also honored during the program.
Additionally, Arvind Jain gifted hampers to all 2,726 current students of the school. He also presented gifts to cleaning staff, gardeners, peons, and other support staff.
To welcome the alumni, the current students of the school performed a cultural program in their honor.
