Deptt of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, organised its 248th Blood Donation Camp on International Thalassaemia Day today i.e. 8th May 2022 in PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Thalassaemic Charitable Trust(Regd) in collaboration with Deptt of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, organised its 248th Blood Donation Camp on International Thalassaemia Day today i.e. 8th May 2022 in PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Dr. Sadhna B Lal, Professor of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, PGIMER Chandigarh inaugurated the blood donation camp. She emphasise the need of Nucleic acid testing in all blood banks of the region and supported the screening for Thalasaemia during first trimester of the pregnancy. Dr Lal thanked the blood donors and presented them the gifts.

Total 109 Hon’ble Blood Donors donated blood in this camp and 24 Blood Donors were rejected due to technical reasons. Prof. Rati Ram Sharma and Dr Suchet Sachdev, deptt of Transfusion Medicine were also present on the occasion.
Shri Rajinder Kalra expressed deep gratitude to the Chief Guest and the Head of Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, and staff PGIMER and all Hon’ble Blood Donor for success of this Camp.

This Trust has organised 63 Blood donation camps since 6th June 2020 during COVID19 lockdown period to help Blood Bank of PGIMER, Chandigarh to provide blood to Thalassaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support. More than 8909 units of blood has been collected in these camps till date.

Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia.  Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days  is  widely  recommended treatment  for  maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in  PGIMER  & GMCH Chandigarh. Free medicines are also provided to the needy patients.
