Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated Diwali with the senior citizens at the Akal Old age home, Ratwara Sahib, Mohali. The visit was facilitated by Mrs Aarti Tikoo, Programme Manager, Helpage India. Col. Ravi, Founder Director , Akal Old age home interacted with the students and informed them about the working of the home. The students interacted with the residents and offered sweets to them. The senior citizens also shared their life experiences and sang songs for the students informed Robin Choudhary, Research scholar who coordinated the visit. The aim behind such visits on important festivals was to make students understand the harsh realities of life and make them responsible towards these important social issues shared Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work. The students were really excited after this visit. ” We wish we could spend some more time with these elderly ” said Jasmeen and Manpreet, two of the visiting students said.
