Gurugram, 20 May: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority carried out a major anti-encroachment drive along the 60-metre-wide sector dividing road between Sectors 58 and 59 in Gurugram. The drive covered an approximately 1.5-kilometre stretch and was undertaken to clear government land, restore green belts, and improve urban infrastructure and public spaces.

Approximately one month ago, Nodal Officer for Encroachment in Gurugram and DTP GMDA, R.S. Batth along with the Enforcement team of GMDA had inspected the stretch and directed encroachers to voluntarily remove all unauthorized structures. Following the inspection, public announcements were conducted twice across the road stretch warning against continued encroachment on government land. As the directions were not complied with, an enforcement drive was carried out today to remove the illegal encroachments.

The enforcement action along Sector 58/59 was led by R.S. Batth. ASI Parveen, along with a team of 15 police personnel from Sector 65 Police Station, assisted the drive in coordination with the GMDA enforcement team. One JCB machine was deployed to carry out the demolition and clearance work.

During the operation, around 20 temporary sheds and khokhas were removed from the green belt area. Several illegal signboards and advertisement boards installed on government land were also dismantled. In addition, nearly 10 illegal tin-shed shops constructed on public land were demolished, along with unauthorized extensions made by certain shopkeepers.

While conducting the drive, members of the public informed officials that several of the temporary khokhas had allegedly been placed by local individuals who were reportedly collecting rent ranging between ₹10,000 and ₹30,000 for use of government land. It was also observed that many of the cart operators were functioning as employees rather than independent vendors. Strict warning were issued to all violators to not re-encroach the cleared area.

Additionally, representatives of the company designated through an MoU to develop and maintain the green belt were also present. They have been instructed to immediately begin development work, install protective grills, and initiate green belt restoration activities within the next 48 hours. At certain locations, illegal parking by employees of nearby companies was also observed, and directions were issued to prevent such practices going forward.

“We will continue to focus on the removal of such encroachments while simultaneously ensuring the development and restoration of green belts. CEO, GMDA, has directed all divisions to work in strong coordination for the betterment of the city and to maintain public infrastructure effectively,” said R.S.Batth.
