Smt. Anuradha Chagti Inaugurates Mega Camp to Support Transgender Community
Chandigarh, October 14, 2024: Smt. Anuradha Chagti, Secretary Social Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh, inaugurated a Mega Camp today at U.T. Guest House, Sector-6, Chandigarh, organized by the Department of Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration.
In her address, Smt. Anuradha Chagti expressed the Administration’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and directed the participating officials to ensure prompt, on-the-spot assistance to community members. She engaged directly with transgender individuals, listening to their concerns and reinforcing the Administration’s dedication to providing accessible support with dignity and ease.
The camp, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, and Non-Official Members of the Transgender Welfare Board, Chandigarh, provided a unique platform to support the transgender community in accessing essential government benefits and services.
The event brought together several key departments, including the District Magistrate’s Office, Municipal Corporation, UIDAI (Aadhaar), Food and Supply and Consumer Affairs, Transport Department, Election Office, Regional Employment Exchange, Punjab National Bank, SACS, and Chandigarh Welfare Departments (WCC/SC/BC).
The goal of the camp was to address and resolve challenges faced by transgender individuals, ensuring they receive seamless access to vital services such as ID cards, voter IDs, Aadhaar, ration cards, employment registration, and bus passes.
Additionally, the camp facilitated medical check-up registrations, issuance of UDID cards for disabled individuals, Senior Citizen Cards, and provided both legal guidance and AIDS control information. Support for concessional loans and skill development courses, aligned with the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and Rules, 2020, was also available.
Mx. Dhananjay Chauhan, member of the Transgender Welfare Board, Chandigarh, also shared insights into the unique challenges faced by the transgender community. The camp was attended by approximately 70 individuals, including officials and community members, marking a significant step towards ensuring transgender persons’ access to essential resources and services.
