Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated its momentous and fulfilling journey of twenty years by staging the theatrical spectacle, ‘Siddharth se Buddha – an awakening’ on 12th December, 2023. The euphonious saga is an original masterpiece meticulously penned and directed by the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan. The director’s vision was translated into an exquisite gossamer of plays, songs and dances displaying the journey of the Enlightened One. The musical strains of the choir, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ tugged at the hearts of the audience, bringing home the relevance of universal brotherhood, especially in today’s world, torn apart by war and conflict.
Sh. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Chandigarh and Vice Chairman, Delhi Public School Society graciously presided over the event as the Chief Guest. For the furtherance of the concept of ‘One family, One world’, he apprised the audience about the initiation of a parallel society to fund the education of economically distressed students of the DPS family all over the country. He lauded the efforts of DPS, Chandigarh for taking great strides in academics and other fields. He also shared the commitment of DPS Society in expanding its curriculum and giving greater opportunities to children to harness their potential.The show was graced by the esteemed members of School Managing Committee.
While addressing the gathering, the Principal Ms. Reema Dewan said that the school believes in building futures, shaping minds and inspiring innovation. She emphasized on developing life skills and imparting value based education. The need of the hour is to prepare children for the road rather than preparing the road for them.
The Principal deemed it her good fortune to have recreated the odyssey of the ‘Enlightened One’ into a symphony of theatrical brilliance. It showcased Siddarth’s journey beginning from his birth, his sheltered childhood, marriage and later, embarking onto the path of enlightenment as prophesied, shunning all worldly pleasures. The in-house production not just provided a once-.in-a-lifetime experience to the students but the spiritual essence of Buddhism will reverberate through the entire institution in the times to come
