ICMR-PGIMER workshop on “Expansion of antimicrobial stewardship and infection control program in secondary care hospitals and private nursing homes”

 

A one-day workshop is being organized by the Department of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh on 30th March 2022under the ICMR-Pfizer project on the “Expansion of antimicrobial stewardship (AMSP) and infection control program (ICP) in secondary care hospitals and private nursing homes”.

Although several activities have beeninitiated by the Government, there is an urgent need to encourage capacity development for healthcare settings like private nursing homes and hospitals who want to implement national programs for antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antimicrobial stewardship programme (AMSP) and infection control and prevention(ICP).

The main aim of this workshop will be to extend theICP and stewardship practices to smaller healthcare institutions in the Tricityregion in a coordinated manner. The agenda for the day long workshop will cover both the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of ICP and AMSP. A total of 50 participants comprising of microbiologists, infection control nurses, pharmacologists and clinicians from different healthcare facilities of the Tricity will be participating in the workshop. Many more are expected to join through the online platform. The workshop will include lectures by eminent speakers on the overview of hospital acquired infections, importance of hand hygiene practices, understanding the metrices of antimicrobial consumption and assessing the rationality of antimicrobial prescription.
