Chandigarh Promotes Eco-Friendly Practices, Maternal Health & Nutrition Awareness
Chandigarh, September 23, 2025: As part of the ongoing POSHAN Maah 2025 celebrations, the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, UT Chandigarh, organized a series of impactful activities to engage the community on health, nutrition, and environmental awareness. Awareness sessions on the harmful effects of single-use plastics and promotion of eco-friendly alternatives were held at Mauli Colony, encouraging residents to adopt sustainable practices.
At Dhanas, a PMMVY Camp with ABHA ID and APAAR ID creation was organized to facilitate beneficiary registration. RC Dhanas-II hosted a comprehensive camp for PMMVY registration, ABHA ID, APAAR ID, and Aadhaar enrolment, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries could access health and welfare schemes seamlessly.
Across all 450 Anganwadi Centres, complementary activities were conducted including youth group meetings, promotion of millets, campaigns for backyard kitchen gardens, and promotion of Anganwadi Centres as learning hubs. Awareness sessions featured lectures on diarrhoea, counselling of parents of SAM children, and counselling of pregnant women for birth preparedness.
Community involvement was further enhanced through making ECCE material from household waste, home visits spreading awareness about anemia and the importance of immunization, and demonstrations on ORS preparation. Special focus was given to home visits for registering new pregnant women and promoting millet-based nutrition, helping strengthen maternal and child health services.
These initiatives reflect Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to improving health and nutrition outcomes, empowering communities, and promoting sustainable, eco-friendly practices for a healthier future.
