Ultrasound/Echocardiography is an indispensable tool in the cardiac surgical operation theatre and intensive care/critical care units. In the cardiac surgical operation theatre, transesophageal echocardiography complements the pre-operative transthoracic echocardiography in diagnosis. Further, it helps to guide few of the crucial steps in the surgical procedure as well as to assess the adequacy of surgical repair. In the critical care unit, echocardiography is the cornerstone of hemodynamic monitoring and management whereby the vital organ functioning is maintained.
Echocardiography is highly operator dependent and therefore, patient management is heavily influenced by the skill of the echocardiographer. The Society of Transesophageal Echocardiography (STE) aims to impart this skill to the budding physicians of this region by conducting regular workshops. The previous 16 editions of this TEEPGI workshop have seen significant positive responses from delegates, to the extent that PGIMER, Chandigarh has become synonymous with TEEPGI among the contemporaries in this field. Organising secretary dr. kulbhushan saini told the various highlights of the workshop which include
Invited guest lectures from experts in the field, from India and abroad.
Structured teaching program, with basics of echocardiography being dealt with on the first day of the workshop and later proceeding to disease specific topics, congenital heart disease and topics entailing discussion among the experts on the later two days.
