11th Annual Conference of the Society for Emergency Radiology organised at PGIMER.
 The Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh is organizing the 11th Annual Conference of the Society for Emergency Radiology. The meeting is being held under the able guidance of Dr Paramjeet Singh, Organizing Chairman and Dr Naveen Kalra, Organizing Secretary. The conference was inaugurated today by Prof. YK Chawla, Former Director, PGIMER in the presence of Dr MS Sandhu. Patron and Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Dr Arjun Kalyanpur, President of the Society. Dr Radha Ratho, Dean Academics of the Institute was the Guest of Honor.
Emergency Radiology is a relatively nascent sub-specialty of Radiology. It involves imaging the patients with trauma as well as critical and emergent non-trauma patients. In this field, the radiologists must strike a balance between describing details versus the promptness of the reporting. The theme of the conference will be Emergency Radiology. There will be didactic lectures and case discussions by reputed national and international faculty in the field. There will be detailed discussions on critical emergency situations like stroke, brain hemorrhage, bleeding from the gut and panel discussions on neck trauma and acute cholangitis. Eminent speakers will include Dr Ajay Singh and Dr Rajiv Gupta from MGH, Boston, Dr Manickam Kumaravel from University of Texas, Houston and Dr Krystal from Emory, Atlanta.
The conference will be attended by about 300 delegates including postgraduate students and practicing radiologists. The meeting had a pre-conference hands-on workshop for training postgraduates for doing interventional procedures like angiographically guided coiling, biopsies and drainages by using simulators and mannequins. There were also workshops on templates of reporting in trauma patients as well as on basic life support. The pre-conference workshop was attended by about 100 delegates. Dr Akshay K Saxena is the Vice-Chairman of the conference, Dr Chirag is the joint Organizing Secretary of the conference and Dr Harish Bhujade is the Treasurer of the conference.
