The Department of Dietetics, PGIMER in association with NSI, Chandigarh Chapter organized its 3rd Continuing Nutrition Education workshop during the recently announced “ Rashtriya Poshan Maah” (September to be observed as National Nutrition Month) by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The workshop was organized on 2nd September 2018 on the topic “ Medical Nutrition Therapy in Burns” and was inaugurated by Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, Chandigarh alongwith Dean, PGI Prof. Rajesh Kumar and Medical Superintendent, Prof. A. K. Gupta as guests of Honour.
Burn patients require nutritional and metabolic support throughout the treatment and hence needs multidisciplinary approach. To tackle burn injuries and to prevent them from further infection, renowned Plastic surgeons, Dieticians, Physiotherapist and Nursing professionals deliberated on the issues. Prof. R. K. Sharma HOD, Dept. of Plastic Surgery from PGI, Prof. Rajpal and Dietician Ms. Pratibha from Indore discussed the pathophysiology of burns and nutritional management during the reconstructive phase. Different feeding methods depending upon the conditions of burn patient as well as the role of physiotherapist during the rehabilitation process were also explained and discussed by Dr. Neena and Dr. Monica from PGI.
Approximately 300 delegates including doctors, nurses, teaching faculty, dieticians and dietetics students from the tricity and other states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, U. P. and Delhi attended the workshop. PGI Chief Dietician, Sunita Malhotra Organizing Secretary alongwith her team and Prof. S. V. Rana, Convenor of NSI, Chandigarh Chapter organized the event which was a grand success.
