Vanmahotsav-2024: Campaign “’Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”

The term “Van Mahotsav” refers to the “tree-plantation ceremony,” celebrated annually in July-August to raise awareness about the importance of growing and nurturing trees. As part of this initiative, the Department of Forests & Wildlife, UT Chandigarh organized a Plantation Programme under the campaign ‘एक पेड़ माँ के नाम’ at Colony No. 4, Industrial Area, Phase-I (Adjoining Amrut Van) on 31st July, 2024.
Sh. Rajeev Verma, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest at the event. He planted a ‘Rudraksh’ sapling to mark the occasion. During the event, Sh. Abhijit Vijay Choudhary, Secretary (Forests, Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. T.C Nautiyal, Chief Conservator of Forests, Sh. Rajiv Tiwari, Director Public Relation, Sh. C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer (UT) and Sh. Navneeet Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Conservator of Forests also planted saplings of different species.
Around 100 students & teachers from different schools also participated in the event and planted approx. 1000 nos. of saplings of different species at Colony No. 4, Industrial Area, Phase-I, Chandigarh. The said area was earlier encroached and was made encroachment free in 2022 by Chandigarh Administration. Now, efforts are underway to develop it as urban forest.
