UK BASED GROUP UNDER CYR VISITS PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA AND SUKHNA LAKE

Chandigarh:  A group of 14 youth from England today visited the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and Sukhna Lake as a part of their itinerary.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state government said that the group visited the Assembly Hall and Library in Vidhan Sabha.

The members of the group interacted with the officials of Vidhan Sabha to get themselves acquainted with the basic norms of legislative procedure and the decorum. They also went around the open ground between the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and Punjab & Haryana High Court, which is a part of City’s Capitol Complex. Later, the group visited the Sukhna Lake and took a fun ride on cruise.

Sharing the experience about this maiden visit to Chandigarh as part of their weeklong tour to Punjab, the group member Gurjot Singh Taneja said that it was an exciting visit especially the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, where they were apprised about its functioning. “We are extremely fascinated to see the unique design and pattern of city beautiful as developed and conceived by the world’s renowned French architect Le Corbusier”, revealed the group members.

They also highly appreciated the initiative taken by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for launching CYR programme thus giving a clarion call to the entire youth settled across the globe to visit Punjab especially those, who had never visited the state earlier.

The visiting youth also mentioned that they were eager to visit different parts of Punjab and interact with the people to know about its rich cultural and historical legacy.

The Group also interacted with the top brass of State Police and Civil Administration during a meeting over a dinner hosted on Tuesday here at PAP, 82nd Battalion. Both, DGP Punjab Suresh Arora and DGP Intelligence Dinkar Gupta freely interacted with the youth, who also express their views about the underlying objective of ‘Connect with Your Roots’ (CYR) programme, that has enabled them to know about state’s glorious cultural heritage besides visiting the native places of their parents and grandparents across the state to socialize with their nears and dears.

On the occasion, Principal Secretary to CM Tejveer Singh, Principal Secretary NRI Affairs SR Ladhar, Special Principal Secretary to CM Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Additional Principal Secretary to CM Girish Dayalan, Political Secretary to CM Captain Sandeep Sandhu, OSD to CM Jagdeep Singh Sidhu and Director Tourism MS Jaggi.

The group, on Thursday, would visit Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, National Institute of Sports and Punjabi University in Patiala and Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
