Tree plantation drive and International Day for Older Persons celebrated by NSS Unit of National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER, Chandigarh under the Government of India Campaign, organized a successful tree plantation drive under the title EK PED MA KE NAAM. The drive aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and promoting awareness among students and the community about the importance of greenery.
The dignitaries from the Department of Hospital Administration and Engineering and Horticulture, PGIMER, Chandigarh presided over the event. Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, NINE emphasized the role of trees in combating climate change and improving air quality. She further emphasized that The environment is our shared responsibility, and it is heartening to see young people taking such a proactive role in preserving it. Tree plantation not only helps in creating a healthier environment but also instils a sense of responsibility towards nature in our younger generation. All the dignitaries appreciated the move by planting the sampling of fruit trees across the NINE campus with active participation from faculty members and NSS volunteers. The NSS volunteers were given responsibility for caring for trees.
In the afternoon, the NSS volunteers also celebrated International Day for Older Persons. The event was presided over by Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, NINE. She emphasized the need for paying more attention and care for the elderly who bring wisdom and experience to society. They require community support to lead dignified and fulfilling lives. On this occasion, NSS volunteers participated in various cultural performances such as songs and dances. The volunteers also performed a skit on the theme Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide wherein the importance of recognizing the contribution of the older people in the development of the society was highlighted. The program was facilitated by the NSS coordinators Dr. Geetanjali, Ms. Jasmeet Kaur, Dr Ashok Kumar, and Dr. Ruchi Saini. Around 91 new NSS volunteers were also enrolled during the event.
