National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), an Autonomous Scientific Society under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India started a three day training on E-Waste for Government Officials at NIELIT, Sector 30, Chandigarh on 11th September, 2018. It is being attended by government officials of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana as well as representatives from various training institutes and entrepreneurs in the area of Electronics, Information Technology and Telecom sectors.
Chief Guest, Sh. Munish Chandan, Head, SeMT, Haryana, on the inaugural day, focused on the need of e waste management. He stressed that as technology is implemented using electronic equipment’s in huge magnitude throughout the country, there is a need to implement proper techniques in managing e-Waste for creating disease free environment.
Ms Sunita Goyle, Director In-charge, NIELIT, Chandigarh told about the Electronic Waste impacts on daily life of the living beings and need for scientific disposal techniques for accomplishing the task of creating hygienic, clean and green environmental conditions in the country. She said that it is a great initiative by MeitY that it is funding and conducting such trainings Pan India.
Dr Manish Arora, Additional Director, NIELIT, Chandigarh in his welcome speech informed that due to rapid change of technology, e-waste has very serious hazardous affects on human health
Sh Susheel Gabgotra, Additional Director, NIELIT, Chandigarh also stressed upon urgent need of handling and disposing e-Waste.
Experienced and renowed speakers from the field of Environment and Pollution are delivering the lectures. The training is being imparted by Dr Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health, PGI, Dr Suman Mor , an environmental expert from department of Environment Studies from Punjab University, Ms Rhythm Aggarwal, Associate Environmental Engineer, Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee and Ms. Sukhmani Kaur, Environmentalist, Dev Samj College.
