Three-Day Capacity Building Program for Master Volunteers under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

A three-day Capacity Building Program for Master Volunteers under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) successfully concluded today at Hotel Parkview, Chandigarh. Organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration, in collaboration with the Gunjan Organisation for Community Development and supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the program aimed to empower volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent substance abuse in the community.

The program, held from September 17-19, 2024, brought together 75 participants, including in-charges of Vada Clubs and volunteers from colleges across Chandigarh. Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) clubs appreciated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India formulated in all educational Institutions of Chandigarh to reach out youth against the menace. The aim of these clubs is to spread awareness about substance use prevention, and received further training to strengthen their efforts at the grassroots level.

The Chief Guest, Ms. Anuradha S. Chagti, Secretary, Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration, addressed the participants and lauded their commitment to the cause. She emphasized the importance of creating an informed and active community that can effectively prevent and address substance abuse, especially among the youth.

Throughout the three days, the program featured interactive sessions led by experts on various topics related to substance use prevention, focusing on practical strategies that volunteers can implement in their communities. These sessions aimed at deepening the understanding of the challenges posed by substance abuse and the importance of preventive measures.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Chagti encouraged the volunteers to carry forward the knowledge gained during the training and act as Master Volunteers of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. She underscored the crucial role they play in reducing substance abuse and urged them to continue engaging with their peers and communities, fostering open dialogues on this critical issue.

The Gunjan Organisation for Community Development also played a significant role in the program, providing valuable insights into community outreach and engagement strategies.

This initiative is part of the broader Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which is being implemented across the country to create awareness and combat the growing issue of drug abuse. The Chandigarh Administration remains committed to this national campaign and will continue its efforts to empower volunteers, engage communities.
