The PGI Differently Abled Employees Union in association with Saksham Chandigarh celebrated the International Day for Person with disabilities at Advanced Paediatric Center Auditorium. To keep in consideration, the activities of the Equal Opportunity Cell for person with disabilities (EO-Cell PwDs) towards person with disabilities at Panjab University Chandigarh, the Saksham Chandigarh confirmed the Saksham Sava Award to EOC-PwDs Panjab University Chandigarh. The Equal Opportunity Cell Person with disabilities established at Panjab University under the banner of SC/ST Cell in April 2017 and independently shifted at Guru Teg Bahadur Building 1st floor in March 2019.Dr Ramesh Kataria, Coordinator of the cell received the Saksham Sava Award to EOC-PwDs Panjab University Chandigarhas he is working as a Coordinator of the cell since June 2019. Dr Kataria is continuously working in the issues of the Person with Disabilities, the details are given below:
Reservation in Admission from 3% to 5% for PwDs
Reservation in Employment from 3% to 4% for PwDs
Fee concession to all PwDs students enrolled at Panjab University
Physical Accessibility at Panjab University Campus
Academic Facilities to PwDs in Main Library
Awareness Programs for the rights of person with disabilities
Now the cell is equipped with computers, scanners, Software like Hindi Scan to speech lekha voice, Duxbury Braille Translator V-12, Epson perfection V-600 Photo Scanner, and other accessible instruments like wheelchairs, crutches, Blind sticks etc. The EO-Cell- PwDs, PU has purchased the sports items like Badminton Racket, Badminton Shuttles, Swimming costumes, Swimming Goggles, Swimming Suits, Cricket kit to organize the sports meet for all PwDs time to time. The Cell has also made provision to sit approximately 30 participants for conducting seminars, meetings etc. at a time. The Cell has also created a WhatsApp group for students/staff/faculties belongs to persons with disabilities for any kind of help with all available sources at Panjab University. The office of EOC remains functional from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM for the assistance of PwDs students.
