Chandigarh.6 November,2020:The first meeting of Empowered Committee on power privatization was held today. The representative of Power Ministry alongwith Transaction Adviser, who joined the meeting subsequently attended the meeting. The Committee finalized the Request for Proposal (RFP) and also letter to be written to Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) regarding the transfer scheme. It was decided to formulate a company first, which will take over the assets of the Power Department. It was also decided to create a Trust, which will manage the pension obligations for the government employees, who will be shifted to the private company. Several decisions were taken to improve competition among the bidders. Adviser, Sh. Manoj Parida stated that since Chandigarh is a compact well administered territory, there will be many bidders for privatization offer and decision will be taken with total transparency. He also assured that the interest of existing employees will be protected, when privatization is completed.
