The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, a statutory body setup under Ministry of Power, under the provision of Energy Conservation Act has promulgated the central Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC). The section 15(A) and section 57(A) of EC Act, 2001 has empowered the states and Union Territories to amend Central ECBC as per their respective climatic conditions. Accordingly, a high level committee was constituted by the Chandigarh Administration in order to suggest the amendments suitable for Chandigarh. The BEE has engaged All India Institute of Local Self Governance (AIILSG) for assisting the SDA Chandigarh in drafting the Chandigarh ECBC Code and getting it approved from competent authority and getting it notified thereafter. All the suggestions from all the stake holders were incorporated and a review meeting was held today on dated 06.04.2023 under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Adviser to the Administrator wherein Finance Secretary, CEO-CREST, other stake holders and representative of BEE were present. The representative of AIILSG made presentation in this meeting regarding the scope and road map for implementation of Chandigarh ECBC. The draft Chandigarh ECBC was approved with a decision to place it in public domain for comments and suggestions from the public. After incorporation of the feedback from the public, the Chandigarh Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code will be notified for implementation in Chandigarh.
