Special event organized on World TB Day at Punjab Raj Bhawan.
Punjab Governor and Administrator, Chandigarh Shri Gulab Chand Kataria emphasizes on public participation for TB elimination.
Chandigarh, March 20, 2025: A special event was organized at Punjab Raj Bhawan today on the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day to reaffirm the commitment towards TB elimination and ensuring better healthcare for all. The momentous occasion was presided over by Punjab Governor and Administrator , Chandigarh Shri Gulab Chand Kataria.
The event brought together government officials, health experts and community representatives to deliberate on strengthening TB awareness and treatment efforts.
In his address, Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria called for active participation of all citizens, health workers and communities in the fight against TB. He emphasized that the goal of TB free India can be achieved through sustained awareness, collective action and strong government initiatives. “Jan Sahyog is extremely essential for TB elimination, and we have to work together in this direction,” said the Governor.
Dr. Suman Singh, Managing Director, National Health Mission (NHM) highlighted the progress made in TB prevention and control. She mentioned the major initiatives taken under the 100-day intensified TB campaign, especially in vulnerable communities. Dr Singh emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment and holistic patient care to reduce the burden of TB.
The efforts of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Nikshay Mitras and TB Champions were also appreciated on the occasion who have played a vital role in raising awareness and providing support to TB patients. Under the initiative, nutrition baskets were distributed to provide nutritional support to TB patients to improve their recovery and overall health.
Principal Secretary to the Governor of Punjab Sh.Vivek Pratap Singh,Health Secretary Sh. Ajay Chagti, , NHM Managing Director Dr. Suman Singh, Joint Director Sh. Nitish Singla, Medical Superintendent Sh. Sushil Mahi and other dignitaries were present in the program. All expressed their commitment towards TB elimination and pledged to make continuous efforts in this direction.
