Chandigarh,sunitashastri: National Association for the blind (NAB) organized a seminar on “Assistive technologies for persons with visual disabilities” at Bal Bhawan Auditorium today. The Chief Guest of the seminar was Sh Rupesh Kumar IAS, Assistant Commissioner, UT Chandigarh, himself a visually challenged. History was created today as the seminar was organized by the visually challenged, for the visually challenged, anchored by the visually challenged and presided over by a visually challenged. Around 80 visually challenged students, teachers, employees of various banks and Govt departments participated in the seminar.The program was being organized by strictly following the Covid 19 guidelines with mandatory wearing of face masks, social distancing, provision for thermal scanning and hand wash or sanitizer. Sh Vinod Chadha, Hony President of NAB said that it is a moment of great pride for us to have Mr Rupesh Kumar as Chief Guest. We had been waiting for the last 30 years to have a deserving Chief Guest from amongst us.A street play of 20 min designed on the theme of “Awareness about Disability” was also presented on this occasion.The objective of the seminar was to make visually challenged end users and educational institutions aware of various accessible technology options for reading and writing independence for persons with blindness or low vision. A revolution has happened in this field.Sh Mahesh Inder Singh, himself a visually challenged person and a known expert on Assistive technologies shared his knowledge about various technologies and software available for use by the Persons with Disabilities and answered all the questions raised by the well informed audience. Sh Rupesh Kumar reminded the visually challenged audience that they must dream big to succeed in life.
