PUNJAB GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PORTAL FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION OF DOMESTIC WORKERS

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government today launched the portal for the online registration of domestic workers. Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu labour Minister Punjab handed over the Photo identity card to some of the domestic workers after the launch of portal at Livestock Bhawan, Mohali. He said that now the domestic workers be extended the benefits of welfare schemes being run by the labour department.

            Disclosing this official spokesperson said that “Domestic workers online Portal” was launch by Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu by saying that “till date there was no provision for the registration of domestic workers, which left these poor domestic workers out of the ambit of welfare schemes of the State Government. Besides they have been subjected to exploitation and ill-treatment at the hands of their employees.” He said that now after the registration of the domestic workers they will be provided a unique photo identity card and they will now be eligible for availing the benefits of welfare schemes being run by the labour departments.

            Earlier in the day  Balbir Singh Sidhu held a high level meeting with the representative of all the trade unions and labour organisations. The representative extended gratitude towards the labour Minister for convening this meeting as the SAD-BJP Government during their 10 year tenure never convened such a meeting with the trade unions and labour organisations. The Minister assured that now onwards the meeting would be held after every 3 months. During the meeting various burning issues pertaining to the welfare of labourers were flagged by the representative of the labourers. A proposal was also passed unanimously in the meeting that all the marginal farmers having less than 5 acres of land holding and farm labourers be included in the category of labourers in unorganized sector and to write off all their outstanding loans. The Minister said that this proposal now be forwarded by the Punjab Government to the Centre Government for its early approval to bail out the debt ridden marginal and farm labourers.

            This meeting was attended by the representatives of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Central India Trade Union (CITU), Bhartiya Majdoor Sangh (BMS), Democratic Trade Union Centre and Chairman Construction Workers Punjab, Central Trade Union (CTU) and Punjab Nirman Majdoor Union.

            From the Government side Mr. Sanjay Kumar Principal Secretary Labour Department, Mr. Vimal Kumar Setia Labour Commissioner Punjab and Mrs. Mona Puri Additional Labour Commissioner Punjab attended the meeting.
