S Poonia, DGHS Haryana, chief guest of theoccasion during the inaugural ceremony of 4-Day Management Development Program,tailoredfor public health managers of the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) Odishabeing organised by Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research(PGIMER) Chandigarh. This program aims to equip 36Public HealthManagers fromOdisha with a comprehensive understanding of urban health and related concepts,empowering them to apply these insights effectively in their respective worksettings.Thisprogram for Urban Health official is first in the country, and second in the series is being organised by theDepartment of Community Medicine and the School of Public Health at StateInstitute of Health and Family welfare, Haryana. This innovative program hasbeen requested by NHM, Odisha and is being hosted as a part of the renownedInternational Public Health Management Development Program, a flagship programof Ministry of External Affairs whichhastrained more than 1,100 participants from over 85 countries said Dr Sonu Goel, Program Director andProfessor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health,PGIMER, Chandigarh,ThisNUHM-specific program represents a pioneering effort, focusing on criticalareas such as gap analysis, GIS-based vulnerability mapping, Monitoring andEvaluation, Strategic and Operational Planning, report writing, and leadershipskills enhancement.The program will be taught byexperts, including Prof. RavindraKhaiwal, Prof. Madhu Gupta, and Prof. Sonu Goel and Dr.Kritika Upadhyay fromDepartment of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER,Chandigarh.Asan integral part of the program, participants will embark on field visits,including a model Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) in Kurukshetra. This one-dayvisit will showcase the delivery of primary healthcare services, the provisionof accessible and comprehensive healthcare in urban areas, and the utilizationof innovative healthcare technologies such as e-Sanjeevani teleconsultation,MERA ASPATAAL, electronic health records via e-UPCHAAR, and the Public-PrivatePartnership (PPP) model. Additionally, participants will attend an outreachcamp to witness community engagement efforts by Haryana State. Besides, a panelon sharing of good practices in implementing NUHM by the states of Haryana,Chandigarh and Punjab will be conducted on last day.The program’s teachingpedagogy will encompass diverse learning techniques, including case studies,panel discussions, role-playing, video presentations, and gamification.Upon programcompletion, participants will formulate an Action Planfor their respectivedistricts based on the knowledge gained during the program.
