50 seats vacant in Certificate course in Chinese Language

There are 50 seats vacant in Certificate course in Chinese Language and all 57 seats vacant in Certificate course in Tibetan Language for session 2020-21.These seats are open for offline admission. The candidates interested to take admission are advised to download the form from the Notice Board of the department website ,fill it up and submit the duly filled up form with required documents and the fee receipt of Rs.3000/-as late fee charge deposited under the Code T0190. They can submit their duly filled forms with fee receipt either in office or by sending it to Email ID chairperson_ctl@pu.ac.in on or before 26th September, 2020. The basic qualification for admission in these courses is + 2 pass.

Act of Kindness Discussed at a webinar by PUAA

Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Sustainable Development Goals, Choupal organized a curtain raiser for the upcoming October Conference named ‘Act of Kindness’ , an initiative by UNESCO which has been planned for furthering the cause of kindness. UNESCO is providing a salutary platform wherein people belonging to the age group of 15-35 years can come forward and share their stories of kindness which will further ensue a ripple effect, galvanizing many others. SDG Choupal is handling this initiative in India. The participants will be awarded with a certificate from UNESCO.

The event was moderated by Prof. Shruti Bedi, Prof. of Law, UILS, Panjab University, who is also the Coordinator of the October Conference. Prof. Bedi introduced all the speakers. Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations formally welcomed the speakers and the participants. She shared some of her experiences in life that she presented as examples of Acts of Kindness.

The invited speakers of the event were Mr. Vivek Atray, Ex IAS officer, Mr Sandeep Saxena, Rotarian and Mr. Abel Caine, Senior project officer, Head of Youth Programme, UNESCO MGIEP and Rtn Deepak Dwivedi, Chairman, Editor in chief, Dainik Bhaskar, Noida. Mr Dwivedi is also chairman SDG Choupal.

Mr. Deepak Dwivedi started the conference by introducing the initiative taken by SDG Choupal. He shared a video of SDG Choupal’s initiatives in India. Mr. Abel Caine explained in detail the Kindness initiative by UNESCO. He explained about the free Compassion Integrity Training and the internships offered by UNESCO. He shared relevant links with the participants in the chat.
Then Mr Vivek Atray gave a motivating speech to the participants about Inspiration, Innovation and Integrity and said that the youth need to add these to their repertoire. He gave simple examples of being kind and helpful to others and concluded by saying one has to change himself or herself to create a ripple effect to change the world.

The participants asked a few questions from Mr Abel Caine about the UNESCO internships. Prof. Shruti Bedi gave a vote of thanks and the curtain raiser ended.

Panjab University Chandigarh Alumnus Ayushmann Khurrana, from School of Communications Studies, PU has been featured in the Time Magazine list of 100 most powerful persons in the world along with several global Icons, Leaders and Titans who have had the most impact this year. He is one of the 5 Indians and the only Bollywood Actor to be part of the list.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University extended his heartiest felicitations for this achievement of a PU Alumnus. It is a matter of great pride for PU to witness the commendable journey from PU to this level. He added that he has always been a bright student of Panjab University.

UGC-NET examinations as well as the Panjab University Online Examinations

It is notified for the information of public in general and the students in particular that the candidates who are appearing for UGC-NET examinations as well as the Panjab University Online Examinations on the same day and time, will have to attempt their Panjab University Online Examination on the same day at 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. (as per the Revised Timings in the Date Sheets)

The soft copy of the same paper is to be uploaded on the same day. The hard copy may be sent on the next working day.

Webinar by PUAA on Teaching and Learning Tools

Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with the Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education organized a webinar ‘ Reflection as a Tool for Teaching and Learning’ by Prof. Praveen Kumar today. Prof. Kumar started his lecture by sharing some interesting anecdotes and incidents about the effect of reflection. Next he shared some excerpts from famous texts like Tom Sawyer. He discussed Metacognition, Reflective Learning Process, the role of reflection in Goal Setting, Classroom Management, Self-Awareness etc. His examples about how reflection can make a teacher or student more accepting about his or her area of improvement kept the participants interested. He discussed important theories of learning like Behaviorism, Cognitivism and Social Constructivism. He concluded by discussing how repositioning a negative event can improve the overall learning environment of the classroom.

Prof. Praveen Kumar, who taught English language and literature in Himachal Pradesh for close to 30 years, retired as Principal in 2019. He has been actively associated with HP University, Shimla in connection with the restructuring of the syllabi for UG classes, besides being a member of the Board of Studies in English for two years. He co-edited an anthology The Threshold, which was prescribed by H.P. University for B.A. 1st year students. Currently he is the coordinator of English Teachers’ Forum of Himachal Pradesh. He is frequently invited by HP State Council of Educational Research and Training as a Resource Person in training programmes conducted for college and school teachers. He has chaired sessions in Conferences and Seminars on many occasions, and the papers presented by him at various forums have been well-received.

Earlier, Dr Kanwalpreet Kaur, Chairperson, Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education, PU, Chandigarh welcomed and introduced Prof. Praveen Kumar to the participants.
The participants interacted with Prof. Kumar and asked many questions related to Metacognition, Reflections, value systems etc. Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur proposed a vote of thanks.
