Chandigarh, June 15 – President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja said that the BJP government should immediately pay the arrears of wheat procurement of the arhtiyas along with 9 percent interest as per the old rates.
In a statement issued here today, Kumari Selja said that it’s been a month since the procurement of crop was closed, but the BJP government has held the arrears of the arhtiyas and till now amount of Rs 400 crore has not been paid to about 35000 arhtiyas. The government had promised the arhtiyas that they would get their share of wheat purchase within 48 hours, but even after a month, the arhtiyas have not received their payment.
Kumari Selja said that the BJP government at the Center has also reduced the amount being paid to the arhtiyas. Earlier, arhtiyas used to get Rs 49.39 per quintal, which has now been reduced to Rs 46. This is sheer injustice to the Arhtiyas and their rights have been robbed, she added.
Kumari Selja said that the government has not yet been able to pay the sugarcane growers for their crop that has come for crushing in the sugar mills of the state. Payment of about Rs 500 crore of the farmers is still pending for the 2020-21 season, which the government has not paid yet. This amount should also be paid to the farmers immediately, said Kumari Selja.
She said that the government came to power by promising welfare of the farmers, labourers, traders and other sections, but it is now bent on ruining the farmers and arhtiyas. The government is harassing the public by issuing many Tughlaqi decrees, she added.
