PGIMER held Mock Drill to assess preparedness in Covid Management

A mock drill to assess the preparedness for management of COVID 19 crisis was conducted in the PGIMER, Chandigarh on 27.12.2022, as per the initiatives by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India to combat the crisis. The drill was activated by worthy Director, PGI at 3.00PM wherein a suspected COVID volunteer reported in Emergency OPD of the Institute.

The proactive and well prepared frontline health care providers (doctors, nurses and paramedical staff), following COVID appropriate behaviour (CAB), clinically examined and treated the volunteer as per the MOHFW guidelines. The required sampling of the patient (RTPCR/Genexpert) was sent to Dept. of Virology to assess their preparedness also.

After providing the needed emergency care, the suspected volunteer was sent to well prepared Isolation ward for COVID 19 patients through already defined path via a dedicated ambulance. All the health care workers involved in the said mock drill performed proper hand hygiene, respiratory etiquettes, masks and maintained social distancing.

All the required medicines, consumables, equipments, signage were available at different designated areas as per the requirements. The whole preparedness rehearsal activity run for at least 70 minutes and, later, DPGI after assessing the preparedness and doing gap analysis de-activated the said drill at 4.10PM and all concerned stakeholders were directed to meet out the gaps itself. The readiness of all the designated ICU beds (30 nos.) and oxygenated beds (70 nos.) were also assessed. The preparedness of manifold services/PSA plants, liquid oxygen and oxygen cylinders were also found to be satisfactory
