Chandigarh, June 25
A new policy will be prepared vis-a-vis religious temples and shops in furniture market in Sector 53-54.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit assured a BJP delegation that met him today over several contentions issues. The delegation was led by Chandigarh BJP President Jatinder Pal Malhotra and General Secretary (Org), BJP Punjab and Chandigarh Manthri Srinivasulu. The BJP said the Governor assurd them of considering all the issues while stating that no coercive measures to be taken in this regard.

The UT Administration has served a notice to several “illegal” religious places asking them to remove encroachment or the authorities will do it. Besides, the administration has also issued a notice to the shop owners of furniture market for demolition as they too are constructed on the government land.

“The Governor gave us a patient hearing and said interests of all these people will be taken care of. A proper policy will be framed in this regard till then they will not be demolished. We have told him sentiments of people are attached to these worship places as they are very old,. Secondly, furniture shops are also there for a long time,” said Malhotra.

The BJP delegation also raised the issue of MC’s decisions to snap illegal water connections from outside lal dora in all the 22 villages.

They were assured of doing the needful in this regard.

The BJP also raised the issue of MC’s resolution that approved over Rs 7 crore for revamp of cremation ground in Sector 25. The BJP delegation, which also comprised General Secreatries Amit Jindal and
Hukam Chand, further said it is a wastage of money to spend such a huge amount of money on an existing structure where no pomp and show is required.

“The Governor showed his concern over this matter. Hopefully, this work may be got done through some NGO and public money will be saved. It will be spent on city’s development,” added the BJP president.
