NCC confers Honorary rank of Colonel to Prof Renu Vig VC Panjab University

Prof Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University was conferred the honorary rank of Colonel in NCC here today in a pipping ceremony held at NCC Group Chandigarh. On the occasion, Maj Gen Manjeet Singh Mokha, Additional Director General(ADG), Nation-al Cadet Corps (NCC), Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Chandigarh Directorate, Brig Harpreet Singh, Group Commander, NCC; Mr Rupinderjeet Singh Brar, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh, Faculties and NCC Cadets from various Colleges and Schools. The solemn ceremony included the pipping of ranks by presentation of folder and mementos to Prof Vig.

The Government of India has granted Vice Chancellors (VCs) of as many as 19 Indian universities for the honorary rank of Colonel in the National Cadet Corps. These 19 VCs will serve as the Colonel Commandant of their respective Universities. Their honorary ranks will be valid for as long as they hold the post. Honorary military ranks are occa-sionally awarded to civilians in recognition of their outstanding performance in a specific field or for their contribution towards nation-building.

On being honored with the honorary rank, the Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig expressed her gratitude and added that the prestigious title is not merely a personal accolade but a testimony to the shared commitment and hardwork of Panjab University and National Cadet Corps to uphold the basic tenets of ‘Unity & Discipline.

The ADG NCC also addressed the audience and urged the NCC Cadets to continue giv-ing their best for excellence in all shares of NCC activities. He further congratulated the Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig for her honorary rank and said that the appointment of Colonel Commandant of NCC shall bring her in close contact with NCC units that shall enable greater interaction with officers and Cadets of educational institutes under juris-diction.
