Max Hospital, Bathinda raises awareness on TB
Bathinda: “Despite significant advancements in medical research and healthcare, TB remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and especially in India, where the disease burden is high,”
Speaking on World TB Day on Monday, Dr. Manan Bedi, Consultant Pulmonology, Max Super Specialty Hospital Bathinda, said that tuberculosis is a bacterial infection primarily affecting the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body.
“The symptoms often include persistent cough, fever, weight loss, night sweats, and fatigue. If left untreated, TB can be fatal, but, with early detection and proper treatment, it is completely curable.”
Dr. Bedi said, “Early diagnosis and adherence to the prescribed medication regimen are critical in preventing the spread of TB. Patients are advised to complete their full course of treatment to avoid the development of drug-resistant TB, a growing concern worldwide. If diagnosed timely and treated well, TB can be cured in the period of six months.”
advised the general public To maintain good hygiene, cover their mouths while coughing or sneezing, avoid close contact with individuals who have a persistent cough, and ensure children receive their TB vaccination as part of routine immunization, advised Dr. Bedi .
