Launch of Citizen Review Service and Cyber Awareness Kiosks by Administrator UT Chandigarh

Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh launched the QR code-based Citizen Review Service and unveiled the Cyber Awareness Kiosks at UT Secretariat, Sector-9, Chandigarh. These two citizen friendly initiatives of Chandigarh Police are aimed at improving service delivery based on public feedback and cyber safety & raising cyber awareness.

SSP UT gave brief introduction about the initiatives- Citizen Review Service and Cyber Awareness Kiosks while the DGP UT highlighted the significance of both the initiatives launched today. An informational video regarding both was also shown to the attendees.

Hon’ble Administrator UT Chandigarh, in his address congratulated Chandigarh Police for introducing these citizen friendly initiatives. He said that it is the right of citizens to evaluate police functioning and now they have been enabled to do so through QR based public review system. This system to rank various police stations/units will develop a healthy competitive spirit amongst police officials which in turn will make governance more efficient and therefore benefit the public in general. This will assure the public that the administration is with them, for their welfare. This is a good step is a good step before the upcoming visit of Prime Minister. Sh. Kataria said that a similar police ranking system is in place in Rajasthan also.

The Administrator expressed that in this digital age, it is very important for everyone to be aware of cybercrimes and Chandigarh Police’s ‘Cyber Awareness Kiosks’ is an essential step in this direction. He lauded various technological and community policing initiatives of Chandigarh Police such as eFIR, eBeat/eSathi, ICMS, SAMAVESH, Cyber Swachhta Mission etc which have helped in bringing the police closer to the public and citizen services at the doorsteps of people. He also said that Chandigarh has been at forefront in implementing the three new criminal laws and that the Chandigarh Police will continue doing good work for the safety and security of the public.

QR-code has been displayed at all the Police Stations, Traffic Challaning Branch, Police Headquarters, website of Chandigarh Police and Cyber Awareness Kiosks to rate the experience of the public with police officials during their visit to any Police station/unit.

The QR Code-Based Citizen Review Service introduces a transparent and efficient system for citizens to share feedback on their interactions with the police. By scanning a QR code available at police stations, Samavesh Centres, Police Headquarters, and Traffic Lines, the public can rate police performance based on parameters such as behaviour, response time, cleanliness, honesty, and accessibility. The collected data/ratings will be used to rank the Police Stations on a monthly basis on different parameters. Rankings will be publicly displayed on the Chandigarh Police website, ensuring transparency and highlighting the top-performing police stations. The system empowers citizens to have their voices heard, allowing the Chandigarh Police to identify areas for improvement, validate service quality, and elevate overall standards.

Alongside, the Cyber Awareness Kiosks initiative addresses the growing importance of cyber security in an increasingly digital world. Strategically placed in prominent locations including Sector-17 Plaza, Sukhna Lake, and Elante Mall, these kiosks aim to educate the public on crucial cyber safety topics and provide easy access to reporting mechanisms in case of cyber incidents. The kiosks will deliver valuable information, such as cyber safety tips, updates on recent cybercrime trends, and practical guidance for secure online behavior. Visitors can engage in interactive learning modules and obtain support contact details, making these kiosks an accessible resource for all citizens to stay informed about cyber threats, including online fraud, phishing, identity theft, and scam prevention. Cyber Swachhta Mission, a community outreach initiative of Chandigarh Police under Digital India is already creating awareness regarding cybercrimes and the cyber awareness kiosks will add another father in the cap.

This dual initiative of the Chandigarh Police represents a commitment to fostering an informed, safe, and transparent community. By combining public service transparency with vital digital awareness, the QR Code-Based Citizen Review Service and Cyber Awareness Kiosks underscore the police department’s dedication to promoting a secure and trusting relationship with the public.
