Chandigarh: The Students for Society (SFS) won the president’s post in the Panjab University students’ council.
22-year-old Kanupriya created history as she became the first elected woman president of the Panjab Univeristy. The Students for Society (SFS) candidate defeated her nearest rival, Ashish Rana of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP by a margin of 719 votes. Kanupriya is pursuing her MSc (second-year) at the zoology department in the University. She is from Patti town in Punjab and her mother is a nurse while her father works in the private sector. Kanupriya was the third presidential candidate fielded by the SFS for the Panjab Univeristy polls.
The SFS got 2802 votes while BJP’s student union the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) came second with 2083 voters. Students Organisation of India (SOI) got 1997 votes. The Congress-backed NSUI got 1583 votes while NOTA got 209
Daler Singh of ISA (SOI alliance) won the VP’s post, Amarinder Singh of INSO (SOI alliance won the secretary’s post) and Vipul Atray of NSUI won for the joint secretary’s post.
