International Health Professionals from 20 Countries to Participate in 14-Day International Public Health Management and Development Program at PGIMER, Chandigarh

A 2 weeks International Public Health Management Development Program for Program Managers of 20 countries will kick-start at PGIMER Chandigarh from 25th June to 08th July2024.The program will be organized by the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. It will feature 38 middle and senior-level healthcare professionals from countries including Burundi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Nepal, Uganda, Morocco, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, Kenya, South Sudan, Malawi, Argentina, Maldives, Ghana, Egypt, and Botswana. Participants will learn public health management and leadership practices to help manage programs in their respective countries and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since its inception in 2016, the program has trained over 1300 participants from 87 countries.

This flagship program has strengthened South-South development cooperation with 161 ITEC countries across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Pacific and Small Island nations, embodying the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’ or ‘the world is one family,’ said Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director and Professor at the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Over the past six years, participants have successfully implemented the practices learned during the program in their respective countries. These efforts have significantly enhanced India’s standing on the global stage for its contributions to public health.

The program shall be taught by eminent faculty, including Dr. Shankar Prinja, Professor, DCM&SPH, PGIMER; Dr Mahesh Devnani, Additional Professor cum Joint Medical Superintendent, PGIMER; Dr. S K Chadha, Former Chairman,UBS; Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Chairman,3 domain leadership Foundation, New Delhi;Dr. S N Panda Professor and Pro Vice Chancellor (Research), Chitkara University, Punjab; Mr. Vivek Atray, Former IAS and Motivational Speaker; Dr. Praveen Kumar, Professor, NICU,PGIMER; Prof. Amarjeet Singh, Former Professor and Head, DCM&SPH, PGIMER, CHD; Dr. Ashoo Grover, Scientist F, ICMR, New Delhi;Dr. Manjushri Sharma, Assistant Professor, Punjab University; Dr.Gopal Chauhan, State Program Officer, HP; Dr. Omesh Bharti, Padam Shree, State Epidemiologist,HP; Dr. Ravinder Kumar Consultant at RNTCP Technical Support Network, HP;Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director andDr. Kritika Upadhyay, Program Coordinator, IPHMDP, PGIMER.

 

Participants will also embark on a study tour to Shimla, visiting the Parimahal Health and Family Welfare Training Centre. Here, they will hear expert talks on rabies vaccines, digital program monitoring systems, integrated approaches, and digital surveillance of non-communicable diseases and TB. Additionally, they will visit the Central Research Institute in Kasauli and selected departments of PGIMER to witness state-of-the-art patient care services such as tele-evidencing, telemedicine, and organ donation facilities (ROTTO). The program will employ diverse learning methodologies, including case studies, management games, quizzes, role plays, videos, and mobile applications.

 

Apart from this, a cultural event is planned on 01stJuly 2024 at Shimla, where participants will showcase their cultures and informally interact with each other for peer learning and networking for future endeavours. The course would end on 08th July with a Valedictory ceremony awarding the best participants in various categories. Following the program, participants will develop an Action Plan for their country or institution based on their learnings, with a follow-up submission of an Action Plan Implementation Report three months later. The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, will reward the best country report.
