Interactive Session on Cyber Crime and its Prevention

 

The Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an interactive session on “Cyber Crime and its Prevention”, by Ms. Rashmi Yadav, DSP, Cyber Crime and Investigation Cell (CCIC) and Sh. Rajender Suhag, Inspector, Cyber Crime and Investigation Cell (CCIC), Chandigarh Police.

Prof. Anil Monga, Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration while welcoming the speakers and the participants said that in the recent years we have witnessed sharp increase in crime particularly specialised crimes such as drug abuse, economic offences, cybercrime among others. With the growing use of smartphones and spread of high speed 3G, 4G networks, we have seen rapid growth in the incidents of cybercrime. The latest report by NCRB reveals that during the last year over 50,000 cases of cybercrime were reported in India. Similarly, in Chandigarh during the last three years the numbers of cybercrime complaints received by Chandigarh police have doubled. He opined that effective strategies by the law enforcement agencies and alert and well informed citizenry is the need of the hour to deal with this menace. Today’s interaction has been organized to sensitize the general public specially students on various aspects of cybercrime and how can we prevent it.

Ms. Rashmi Yadav, DSP, Cyber Crime and Investigation Cell (CCIC), Chandigarh Police, while interacting with the students advised them not to fall for any free offers on any digital app. She further cautioned the students to download apps from safe and secure sites only.

Mr. Rajender Suhag, Inspector, CCIC, Chandigarh Police, in his address to the participants, talked at length about various aspects of cybercrime specially in Chandigarh and how young students can prevent themselves from such crimes. He was of the view that these days students are falling prey to this crime because of their casual approach while using social media such as, Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp. He gave youngsters many useful tips for remaining alert and save themselves from becoming victim of this crime. The speaker cleared all the doubts and answered all the queries of the students and faculty on the subject professionally to their satisfaction.

The lecture was attended by Prof. Swarnjit Kaur, Prof. Gunmala Suri, Dr. Shweta Sharma, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Guest Faculty, Research Scholars and students of Centre for Police Administration .
