Chandigarh: The inaugural functions of New Academic Session of MBBS and BSc Nursing of Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh, were held at Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh today (1.8.2018) at 9.30 am and 2.15 pm respectively. Prof. Prof. B.S. Chavan, Director-Principal, GMCH, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and delivered motivational speech to the new entrants.
The Director-Principal, Medical Superintendent and Registrar (Academic) welcomed the new batch of students along with their parents. The Director-Principal informed the students that they have entered into an institution of academic excellence and high ethical and moral values and introduced them to the HODs and the faculty from the Deptts. of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. The students were informed that the GMCH, Chandigarh has put in place a system where their day-to-day needs will be looked after while they come for the classes in the College as well as in the hostel. They were ensured that there is ‘Zero Tolerance’ for ragging in the GMCH, Chandigarh and they have been provided a 24 Hours Helpline number for any ragging relating incidence. The Director-Principal shared his personal e-mail and mobile number with the students and asked them to reach out to him any time in case of any difficulty being encountered by them.
They were also informed that during first few weeks of their stay, because of multiple factors, some of them might experience unbearable stress and in such a situation they were told that the faculty from the Deptt. of Psychiatry will be meeting them and telling them how to cope up with the difficult academic and professional issues during this stress.
The Director-Principal informed the students and their parents that from today onwards, they are entering into a new life which will be full of challenges but pleasure and they have taken up a profession which is the most noble. They were also informed that in spite of some untoward incidences of violence against doctors, it is still one of the most beautiful and noble profession and asked the students to be polite and ever-smiling whenever they meet their patients. The parents, who came with the students, were also welcomed and they joined the faculty with a cup of tea and shared their concern.
The Director-Principal performed the While Coat Ceremony where the students were called by name and given the white coats.
Similarly in the afternoon, the Director-Principal, Registrar Academic, Prof. Usha Dalal Vice Principal of College of Nursing and Prof. A.K. Attri HOD/Surgery welcomed the first batch of BSc Nursing students who joined today.
