Chandigarh. Former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal has said that though the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator’s contribution to the metro project though welcome but cannot absolve the BJP leadership of rejecting the proposal 10 years back then pushing the city in traffic chaos.

He said that if the work on Metro had been started 10 years earlier it would been smoother for people.

Considering the way, the population of the city is increasing, Metro is very important in Chandigarh and keeping in mind the future, the administration should have started this project many years ago. He said that serious discussion on the metro project had started 10 years ago. This project could have gained momentum but due to BJP leadership intervention the project got shelved.

He said that if the metro had started 10 years ago, people would have been traveling in the metro today. The city would get relief from severe traffic jams and pollution.

He said that metro in Chandigarh should run underground within grid boundaries and only outside should it be elevated.

He said that if metro can run up to 95 feet below in an area like Chandni Chowk in Delhi, then why not in Chandigarh? He said that when Congress had proposed the Metro project 10 years ago, its alignment had already been done.

He further said that BJP had failed to undertake the projects like film City and amusement park in Sarangpur institutional area as planned by UPA government. These two projects have given employment to large number of youngsters and provided healthy entertainment to the children.
