“Haryana Police’s Comprehensive Strategy Yields Positive Results: Significant Reduction in Crimes Against Women and Children”
Chandigarh, December 17 – The efforts undertaken by the Haryana Police to prevent crimes against women are yielding positive results, leading to a 12% reduction in crimes against women in the state in 2023. Similarly, compared to 2022, there has been a 30% decline in robbery-related cases, an 18.33% decline in snatching cases, and an 8% decline in serious injury-related cases in 2023.
This information was disclosed in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur. Senior police officers from across the state participated in this meeting, where women’s safety was discussed in detail.
Director General Kapur emphasized the need to concentrate efforts on areas where women express a sense of insecurity. He urged police officers to form teams of women within their respective districts, dedicated to visiting hotspot areas and addressing instances of harassment by unruly individuals. In response to this, Police Commissioner Gurugram, Vikas Arora, mentioned a recent campaign in Gurugram where stern warnings were issued to the families of mischievous boys involved in such incidents.
Continuously gathering feedback from affected women, even after the resolution of their complaints, was stressed by Shri Kapur. He emphasized the importance of a coordinated and strategic approach in this regard. Following the registration or resolution of a complaint related to crimes against women, he advocated consistently seeking feedback from the women involved to inquire about their well-being. Throughout this process, the police force will remain committed to ensuring the safety of women, thereby reinforcing their sense of security.
The teams established in the districts to combat crimes against women and children will undergo specialized training. As discussed in the meeting, each district’s team will receive training from experts to effectively address criminal incidents targeting women and children. A noteworthy initiative is underway in Gurugram district, where women police personnel will engage with women and girls in schools, collecting information about their challenges. To enhance their effectiveness in dealing with women’s safety issues, these personnel will undergo training in separate batches, enabling them to navigate schools, colleges, and other hotspot areas proficiently.
“A case under Section 498A will be registered only after a thorough investigation of all details in the complaint. Innocent individuals will be safeguarded from harassment, while stringent action will be pursued against the actual perpetrators.
The meeting revealed a crucial decision by Haryana Police regarding cases under Section 498A (dowry) registered at police stations. Following a woman’s complaint, a case will now be registered solely against the genuine accused after a comprehensive investigation of all facts. Names of innocent individuals will be excluded during the investigation, ensuring that cases are not filed against them. Strict action will be reserved exclusively for the real culprits. This decision aims to provide significant relief to innocent individuals.
Drug smugglers will face unwavering consequences, and the strictest measures will be implemented, affirmed the Director General of Police. Emphasizing a relentless approach, he urged law enforcement to focus on the illicit properties of drug smugglers during operations. Additionally, a call to action was extended to assist individuals grappling with drug addiction, assigning this responsibility to village guards. The Director General emphasized the need to honor Gramin Prahari (village guards) for their commendable efforts, creating a ripple effect to inspire others towards positive contributions.
Delving into the specifics of cybercrime control, the Director General of Police highlighted the continuous evolution of techniques employed by cybercriminals to ensnare individuals in fraudulent activities. He noted a surge in cases related to task-based cybercrime. An upcoming initiative involves the initiation of a Bulk SMS service to disseminate awareness about preventing cybercrime. The meeting further delved into comprehensive strategies for the prevention of cybercrime.
Haryana Police Intensifies Enforcement of Lane Driving Regulations with Stringent Measures
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the ongoing efforts to enforce lane driving regulations was conducted by the Director General of Police. Emphasizing the importance of compliance, the Superintendents of Police were directed to ensure strict adherence to lane driving rules on NH-152D, NH-44, and NH-9 within their respective jurisdictions.
Measures Implemented for Traffic Management and road safety
The meeting highlighted significant initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety in the state. Crucial steps have been taken to establish speed limits for vehicles, with a focused approach on area-wise implementation across districts. Additionally, stringent measures, including the issuance of fines, have been enforced against individuals misusing sirens and red lights without authorization throughout the state.
In addition to this, vital information on lane driving is actively being disseminated through engagements with representatives of transport unions. Providing technological innovation in enforcement, Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Arora shared that challans are now being issued through drones in Gurugram. He reported a significant impact, revealing that from December 1 to December 13, a total of 6000 vehicles were issued challans for lane driving violations. Furthermore, Gurugram has witnessed a doubling of challans for individuals driving under the influence of alcohol, signaling an intensified focus on road safety measures.

During the meeting, it was underscored that vigilant actions are consistently taken against individuals playing loud music, especially DJs, late into the night. Stringent campaigns, both in urban and rural areas, have been initiated, resulting in the registration of cases against such violators.
Furthermore, addressing the employment needs of the police force, the meeting reported that 25 children who completed a security guard course have been offered jobs by a company. These individuals are set to join their duties shortly, reflecting a positive step toward providing job opportunities for the children of police personnel.
The session also encompassed a thorough evaluation of the ongoing efforts under the assessment form. The meeting emphasized the need for clear delineation of responsibilities for each police personnel within the assessment form.
