Responsibility of the country’s future on the shoulders of new teachers – Administrator UT
Chandigarh, 01 April 2025: Governor of Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today handed over appointment letters to 281 newly appointed Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers in a state level function organised by Education Department, UT Chandigarh at Government Post Graduate College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh. This ceremony marked a major step towards strengthening the framework of the city’s education system, in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
During his address, the Administrator UT Chandigarh congratulated the newly recruited JBT teachers and also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Education department for putting up such a great show in a flawless manner. He mentioned the role of a teacher, whose job might have a humble life but the pride and respect they receive from their students is priceless. Sh. Kataria said that it is the result of past good deeds that one gets the opportunity to become a teacher because the work of a teacher is not just a profession, but it is an opportunity given by God to serve the society and the country.
Pointing out the importance of building a strong foundation for the students, Sh. Kataria mentioned that the basic education plays a vital role in children’s lives. A teacher has to be exemplary in conduct because a student learns more through actions than by words. The Administrator expressed his desire to elevate the results of Government schools above the level of private schools in next one year so that parents line up to seek admission in government schools. He called upon the teachers to adopt education as a mission and prepare each student in such a way that they can touch the heights of success in their lives and prepare the future India to become a Vishva-guru by 2047.
About 1.5 lakh students are studying in a total of 111 government schools in Chandigarh, out of which, 41,419 students studying at the primary level. There are 1,391 sanctioned posts of JBT teachers in these schools, out of which 469 posts were vacant. A structured process was designed to ensure a transparent procedure to recruit 281 JBT teachers. The appointment of these new teachers today will help in further strengthening the education system of government schools.
Present during the event were Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh Sh. Rajeev Verma, Principal Secretary to Governor Sh. V.P. SIngh, Secretary Education Ms. Prerna Puri, Director School Education Sh. Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar and other officials of Education Department and Chandigarh Administration.
